lmao debi! grumpy was so mean when she was a baby! she would hiss or scrach/bite whenever we got near or tried to pet her! so i was joking one day holding her while she was growling at me and said, "you are such a grumpy kitty." and whenever i would see her i would go, "hay grumpy kitty." and the name ended up sticking :) so that is the reason behind that!!
